Faith Academy Receives Book Donation of Bilingual Children’s Book, “Hello, Zapata! ¡Hola!”

PRESS RELEASE: Zapata, TX. December 1, 2016 – Mr. & Mrs. Romeo García of Zapata Rehabilitation Center, donated copies of Hello, Zapata! ¡Hola! by Dr. Ma. Alma González Pérez to all the children of Faith Academy elementary school in Zapata, Texas.

A book reading and presentation ceremony for the students was held by Faith Academy on November 9, 2016. Dr. Pérez shared with the group her passion for reading and of her favorite places in Zapata County. The book’s purpose is to encourage young children to take note and take pride in their own communities and learn as much as they can about their history, their people, and their places of interest.

It is Dr. Pérez’ hope that children will enjoy this book and that teachers and parents find it useful in helping the children develop greater awareness of the social and cultural resources Zapata County offers.

Dr. Pérez was an educator with the Zapata Independent School District and also a professor of bilingual education with The University of Texas – Pan American. She is currently writing children’s books and teacher resource materials to narrow the achievement gap of Hispanic students.
