This poignant story recounts the miracle of birth after tragedy and loss of a young life through angels as metaphors. Though it introduces the topic of death, it also implies that to every ending, there is always a new beginning – possibly through the presence of angels in our lives.

Award winning author Dr. Ma. Alma González Pérez and local artist Patricia González proudly announce the release of An Angel from Above / Un ángel dese arriba, a bilingual children’s book inspired by a true story. A book signing event is planned for Sunday, February 18th, at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Parish Hall and starts at 3:00 p.m. in Zapata, TX.

This poignant story recounts the miracle of birth after tragedy and loss of a young life through angels as metaphors. Though it introduces the topic of death, it also implies that to every ending, there is always a new beginning – possibly through the presence of angels in our lives.

“I wrote this book because this is a story worth telling and children, in particular, need to be exposed to books based on true stories, especially from our area. I cannot emphasize enough that children need to read about the here and now and about people like you and me. In so doing, they will see themselves, their families, their culture reflected in the reading and, thus gain greater understanding of themselves and the world around them,” states Dr. Pérez.

This is a special project whose proceeds from the sale of the book will go exclusively toward the college fund of Jamie Ann Paredes, a Zapata High School graduate, currently studying nursing at Laredo Community College.

Ms. Patricia González donated her artwork for An Angel from Above / Un ángel desde arriba. She feels it has fallen into her hands as a calling from above, for she believes that we are all born with a custodial angel that guides us throughout our lives.

The publishing team at Del Alma Publications kindly asks the public to open their hearts and embrace this labor of love by obtaining a copy for the children in their lives while, at the same time, contributing toward a worthwhile cause.
